In Japan, they are frequently seen as mere digitized ledgers or tabulation tools, wasting their potential. This paper redefines spreadsheets as “exploratory devices for capturing the incongruity of events” and clarifies their functional essence, aiming to reduce misuse and enhance their value in decision support.
