| contents | <p>This study examines school readiness, teacher workforce conditions, and projected teacher demand for senior high schools and equivalent institutions in supporting the implementation of the 13-Year Compulsory Education Movement in Banggai Laut Regency. The study is based on the importance of ensuring equitable access to secondary education, particularly in archipelagic areas that continue to face geographical constraints, limited educational facilities and infrastructure, and uneven teacher distribution. A quantitative approach with an explanatory design was employed. The study was conducted in Banggai Laut Regency, Central Sulawesi Province, involving all senior high schools and equivalent institutions. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and cohort analysis based on the Chesswas and Correa models to project student enrollment and teacher demand for 2026–2030. The findings show that school readiness is quantitatively positive, as reflected in the increasing number of students and class groups during 2020–2025. However, qualitative readiness still requires improvement, particularly in facilities and infrastructure, managerial capacity, and teacher competence. Teacher availability remains relatively limited and not fully proportional to student growth, especially in terms of equitable distribution across schools. The five-year projection indicates an increase in teacher demand from 8 to 12 teachers, resulting in a shortage of 4 teachers. These findings highlight the need for coordinated policy interventions, sustainable recruitment strategies, and stronger institutional support to ensure equitable educational services and strengthen long-term implementation of compulsory education regionally.</p> |
