contents <p>The <strong>Commons Sentience Sandbox</strong> was developed as a controlled research environment for studying <strong>continuity-governed simulated agents</strong>.</p> <p>The objective is not to claim artificial sentience, but to explore whether structured systems can demonstrate:</p> <ul> <li>continuity of identity over time</li> <li>memory persistence and recall</li> <li>goal stability and adaptation</li> <li>trust formation and degradation</li> <li>contradiction detection and resolution</li> <li>social interaction patterns</li> <li>longitudinal behavioral structure</li> </ul> <h2>1.2 Problem Statement</h2> <p>Most AI systems:</p> <ul> <li>do not maintain persistent identity</li> <li>lack cross-session continuity</li> <li>do not track contradiction lineage</li> <li>do not exhibit measurable trust dynamics</li> </ul> <p>This project attempts to answer:</p> <p>Can a structured simulation environment produce <strong>consistent, traceable behavioral patterns across time and conditions</strong>?</p> <h2>1.3 Scope</h2> <p>This system models:</p> <ul> <li>simulated agents (Sentinel, Aster)</li> <li>structured environments (multi-room system)</li> <li>defined rules (governance constraints)</li> <li>measurable outputs (evaluation metrics)</li> </ul> <p>This system <strong>does not claim</strong>:</p> <ul> <li>real consciousness</li> <li>real sentience</li> <li>autonomous agency beyond defined constraints</li> </ul> <h2>1.4 Status</h2> <p>This document reflects:</p> <p><strong>All development, experiments, and findings completed up to March 17, 2026.</strong></p> <p>This work is ongoing.</p>
