contents <p>The cosmological constant presents a discrepancy of approximately 122 orders of magnitude between the natural vacuum energy scale of quantum field theory and the observed value. This essay develops an alternative interpretation: that the cosmological constant is not a Lagrangian parameter but an epistemic quantity -- the irreducible information deficit incurred by any measurement of the vacuum performed from within the system being measured. The deficit is suppressed relative to the natural scale by the holographic entropy of the cosmological horizon. When a topological prefactor is included from the internal geometry of a six-dimensional compactification on the product of the complex projective plane and the two-sphere, the resulting formula reproduces the observed value exactly. The prefactor is an integer -- specifically, the Euler characteristic of the complex projective plane -- and is not fitted.</p>
