- <p>This paper analyzes Twitter (X) post data contain- ing the keywords ”surgery AND rehabilitation” from 2019 to 2024, tracking changes in medical discourse. The investigation revealed significant changes in post- ing content before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, posts primarily focused on or- thopedic diseases and physical injuries. However, be- ginning in 2020, concerns about infection prevention and restrictions on medical access increased dramat- ically. Furthermore, mentions of home rehabilitation and treatment increased due to the postponement or interruption of surgical treatments. By disease cate- gory, references to internal medicine symptoms such as ”fever,” ”fatigue,” and ”respiratory symptoms” in- creased after 2020, while mentions of conditions re- quiring surgical treatment, such as ”ligaments” and ”hernias,” temporarily decreased. There were also dif- ferences in discourse characteristics between posts by patients themselves and by caregivers; patients them- selves tended to focus on physical pain and recovery processes, while caregivers tended to mention practi- cal issues such as ”nursing,” ”support,” and ”mobil- ity.” From 2022 onward, as normal medical activities gradually resumed, posts about surgical treatments also showed signs of recovery, but heightened awareness about health concerns and access to medical care con- tinued.
