| contents | <p><b><i>Drabescus dilatatoconnexus</i> Zou & Cao sp. nov.</b></p><p>(Figs 1e–h, 3a–g)</p><p><b>External morphology.</b> Crown brown, with a short yellow transverse band and several yellow spots medially; anterior margin obtusely rounded and protruding, with distinct transverse yellow band along anterior margin leading onto eyes; coronal suture more than 1/2 length of crown (Figs 1e, f, h). Eyes dark grey. Face broad, with longitudinal striations on the upper half; frontoclypeus black, with brown lateral margins; anteclypeus black, with fulvous lateral margins; lorum yellow; gena dark brown in upper region, yellow below eyes and with sparse black punctures (Fig. 1g). Pronotum and exposed mesonotum brown, densely speckled with yellow spots; pronotum with a continuous arcuate yellow band along lateral and anterior margins (Fig. 1e). Forewing brown, veins spotted with alternating black and yellow (Figs 1e, f).</p><p><b>Male genitalia.</b> Male pygofer side broad, subtriangular in lateral view, with ventral appendage and several long macrosetae near caudal margin (Figs 3a, b). Valve with posterior margin medially emarginated, about 2.9× as wide as long medially (Fig. 3c). Subgenital plate broad basally, narrowed to apex, length about 2.1× as long as wide at base, basal lateral margins with irregularly arranged slender elongate setae (Figs 3a, c). Style with poorly developed subapical lobe, apophysis with inwardly curved apex and surface transversely striate (Figs 3d, e). Connective Yshaped, stem and arms subequal in length; stem robust, apically dilated, expanded laterally, with undulate apical margin (Figs 3f, g). Aedeagal shaft slightly flattened, tapering apically, apex slightly curved ventrad, with paired finger-like processes arising from base and longer than shaft in lateral and ventral view; dorsal apodeme well-developed; gonopore apical (Figs 3f, g).</p><p><b>Measurement.</b> Length of male 7.2 mm (including wing).</p><p><b>Material examined.</b> Holotype: m#, Genting Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia, 17.VII. 2023, coll. Hongfen Zou (NWAFU).</p><p><b>Remarks.</b> This species is similar to <i>Drabescus remotus</i> (Walker, 1851), but can be distinguished by the poorly developed subapical lobe of the style, the stem of connective about as long as the arms with the apex laterally dilated, and the aedeagal shaft slightly curved ventrally with processes longer than the shaft. In <i>D. remotus</i>, the style has a well-developed subapical lobe, the stem of the connective is longer than the arms and parallel-sided, and the aedeagal shaft is curved dorsad and has a pair of processes about as long as the shaft.</p><p><b>Etymology.</b> The specific epithet is derived from the combination of the Latin words “dilatatus” and “connexus”, referring to the apical dilation of the connective stem.</p><p><b>DNA barcode.</b> The <i>COI</i> sequence was uploaded to the Nucleotide database of Genbank with the accession number PX394196.</p> |
