TAIWAN: NANTOU:</b> Holotype ♂ (dissected): ‘TAIWAN: NANTOU county | Hsinyi township, Tatachia, | Lulin sacred tree, 16.IV.2025 | 23°28'55'' 120°51'17''E, | 2350-2400m. M. Geiser, C.F. | Lee, Y. Hsiao & Y. T. Chung leg. | BMNH {E} 2025-22.’ <printed>, ‘ PARATYPE | <i>Eusphalerum</i> | <i>sacrum</i> sp.n. | Shavrin A. V. des. 2026’ <printed> (TARI).</p><p>Paratypes: 6 ♂♂ (one specimen without right antennomeres 8–11), 4 ♀♀ (dissected): same data as the holotype, with additional red printed label: ‘ PARATYPE | <i>Eusphalerum</i> | <i>sacrum</i> sp.n. | Shavrin A. V. des. 2026 <printed> (6 ♂♂, 3 ♀♀: BMNH; 1 ♀: TARI).</p><p><b>Description.</b> Measurements (n=11): HW: 0.50–0.62; HL: 0.29–0.32; OL: 0.12–0.15; TL: 0.03–0.05; AL (holotype): 0.77; PL: 0.36–0.45; PW: 0.59–0.67; ESL: 0.81–1.01; EW: 0.79–0.97; MTbL (holotype): 0.38; MTrL (holotype): 0.22; AW: 0.67–0.96; AedL: 0.45; BL: 2.16–2.65 (holotype: 2.40).</p><p>Habitus as in Fig. 6. Forebody yellowish-brown (neck in holotype and one paratype darker, reddish-brown; scutellum in holotype and two paratypes distinctly darker); abdomen yellowish-brown to reddish-brown (paratergites and apical tergites slightly paler); antennomeres 7–11 usually darkened. Head with sparse and fine punctation, denser in middle, holotype and two paratypes with indistinct punctures; punctation of pronotum moderately sparse, distinctly larger and deeper than that in middle part of head, finer and sparser in middle and posteromedial portions (two paratypes without punctures in posteromedial part); elytra with dense, large and deep punctation, usually finer and sparser in middle. Head and pronotum with very dense, regular, isodiametric microsculpture; abdominal tergites with dense transverse microreticulation.</p><p>Head 1.7–1.9 times as broad as long, with indistinct shallow, narrow and short anteocellar foveae; anteromedian depressions almost reaching anteocellar foveae; postocular carina indistinct, obtuse. Antennomeres 5–6 indistinctly longer and broader than 4, 6 slightly longer and broader than 5, 7 slightly broader than 6, 8 slightly broader than 7, 9 slightly longer and broader than 8, 10 indistinctly longer than 9.</p><p>Pronotum 1.4–1.6 times as broad as long, slightly broader than head, from widest middle moderately strongly narrowed posteriad; anterior margin widely rounded or somewhat straight.</p><p>Abdomen slightly narrower than elytra, with two indistinct transverse tomentose spots in middle of abdominal tergite IV and two indistinct, small and round spots in middle of tergite V (invisible in two paratypes).</p><p>Male. Abdomen reddish-brown. Posterior margins of abdominal tergite VIII slightly and sternite VIII widely and deeply concave. Aedeagus with wide basal portion, gradually narrowed toward short and narrow median lobe; parameres significantly longer than apex of median lobe, each with broadly widened apical lobes with two long and several short apical and preapical setae, with additional several short setae on widened preapical part of paramere; internal sac wide and short (Fig. 11). Lateral aspect of the aedeagus as in Fig. 12.</p><p>Female. Abdomen yellowish-brown. Posterior margin of abdominal tergite VIII truncate. Posterior margin of abdominal sternite VIII rounded. Accessory sclerite as in Fig. 14. Spermatheca not recognized.</p><p><b>Comparative notes.</b> Based on the coloration and the length of the body, the coloration of darkened apical antennomeres, and the general shape of the aedeagus, <i>Eu. sacrum</i> <b>sp. nov.</b> is somewhat similar to Taiwanese <i>Eu. pseudoreitteri</i> Zanetti, 1998, also described from Nantou (Zanetti 1998), from which can be reliably distinguished by the shape of shorter median lobe, the longer parameres with narrower apical lobes with different features of the apical setation, and completely different morphology of the internal sac and the female accessory sclerite.</p><p><b>Distribution.</b> <i>Eusphalerum sacrum</i> <b>sp. nov.</b> is known only from the type locality in Nantou (Hsinyi township, Tatachia), central Taiwan.</p><p><b>Etymology.</b> The specific epithet is the Latin adjective <i>sacer</i>, feminine <i>sacra</i>, neuter <i>sacrum</i> (holy, sacred). It alludes to the type locality in Tatachia with Lulin sacred tree.</p><p><b>Bionomics.</b> See bionomical notes for <i>Eu. geiseri</i> <b>sp. nov.</b></p>
