R. Copeland; 1 ♀, idem, but 25.xi–09.xii.2011, leg. R. Copeland (ICIPE).

Diagnosis. The Kenyan specimens of E. africana are characterized by the combination of the following characters: eye glabrous, with inner orbits distinctly convergent to clypeus (Fig. 2B); female antenna with median flagellomeres slightly paler from the underside than the rest of flagellomeres, with 18+ flagellomeres (Fig. 2A), first flagellomere 5.2–5.3 × as long as wide; occipital carina narrowly present dorsally (Fig. 2C); mesoscutum evenly pubescent, with notauli meeting a median longitudinal carina in the middle of mesoscutum; propodeum with area superomedia elongate, 2.1–2.3 × as long as maximum width, apophyses developed (Fig. 2C); fore wing vein 2rs-m about 0.7 × the distance between 2rs-m and 2m-cu, vein 3rs-m absent; hind wing with nervellus not intercepted, slightly reclivous; hind tibia brownish except base (Fig. 2A); first metasomal tergite 4.0–4.1 × as long as maximum width, longitudinally wrinkled; second tergite weakly longitudinally wrinkled, 1.1–1.2 × as long as apical width (Fig. 2D); ovipositor 0.5 × as long as hind tibia, straight.

Distribution. South Africa (Humala 2024), Kenya (first record).

Remarks. Eusetrinx africana was described based on a single female specimen with antenna broken after 18 th flagellomere. Unfortunately, the only Kenyan specimens, which habitually resembles E. africana also have antenna broken apically after 14 th or 17 th flagellomere, thus the full number of flagellomeres in this species remains unknown. In the original description (Humala 2024) nothing is stated about the colouration of the median flagellomeres of E. africana, but from the Fig. 1 in Humala (2024) it is clearly visible that the median part of antenna is somewhat paler, which can be considered as one of the key characters in recognising of this species. The Kenyan specimen generally fits well the original description and images of E. africana, but has somewhat shorter area superomedia (2.1–2.4 × vs 2.4 × in the holotype) and stouter second tergite (1.1–1.2 × vs 1.35 × in the holotype), which however can be considered as variability.
|
