| contents | <p><b><i>Euplatypus</i> Wood, 1993</b></p><p>Type species: <i>Bostrichus parallelus</i> Fabricius, 1801.</p><p><i>Euplatypus</i> was erected by Wood (1993) for the species previously included in Schedl’s (1972) species groups <i>Platypi trispinati</i> and <i>P. caudati.</i> Fifty species are currently included in the genus (A.J. Johnson pers. comm.). <i>Euplatypus</i> is primarily a Neotropical genus, with numerous species in Central and South America, and a few in the Afrotropical region and Madagascar. A single species, <i>E. parallelus</i>, has been introduced to the Oriental region, where it is invasive and has become abundant, particularly in disturbed areas (Beaver 2013).</p> |
