| contents | <p><span>Background: Language and culture are inseparable in literary creation. African and diasporic writers use language not only as a communicative tool but as a vehicle for identity construction and cultural resistance. The works of Léon-Gontran Damas and Nguema Ndong illustrate how linguistic expression embodies memory, colonial experience, and indigenous worldviews.</span></p> <p><span>Objectives: This study comparatively examines how language functions as a cultural marker in selected works of Damas and Ndong, analyzing their integration of cultural symbols, oral traditions, and socio-political realities.</span></p> <p><span>Method: A qualitative and comparative literary approach is adopted. Selected texts are analyzed thematically and stylistically, focusing on lexical choices, rhythm, symbolism, code-switching, and cultural references. Postcolonial and sociolinguistic theories guide the analysis.</span></p> <p><span>Results: Damas employs a rebellious, rhythmically fragmented poetic language to denounce colonial oppression and affirm Black identity. Ndong integrates indigenous expressions, proverbs, myths, and oral narrative techniques to preserve and project African heritage. Both writers transform language into a tool of cultural resistance and identity reconstruction.</span></p> <p><span>Conclusion: In both authors, language transcends communication and becomes a repository of collective memory and cultural emancipation. Despite differing contexts, they converge in affirming identity through linguistic creativity.</span></p> <p><span>Unique Contribution: The study bridges Francophone Caribbean and Central African perspectives, highlighting convergences and divergences in linguistic-cultural strategies.</span></p> <p><span>Key Recommendation: Further cross-regional comparative studies are encouraged to deepen understanding of language as a cultural and ideological instrument in postcolonial discourse.</span></p> |
