contents
The rapid expansion of digital technologies has fundamentally transformed the landscape of advertising, positioning social media platforms as dominant channels for brand communication and consumer engagement. This study examines the multidimensional effects of digital social media advertising (DSMA) on consumer attitudes and purchase intentions, drawing on three foundational theoretical frameworks: the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM), and the Uses and Gratifications Theory (UGT). Through a systematic review and synthesis of extant empirical and theoretical literature, this paper identifies key advertising attributes including perceived relevance, informativeness, entertainment value, credibility, and interactivity, that significantly mediate the relationship between social media advertising exposure and favorable consumer attitudinal and behavioral outcomes. The findings reveal that consumer attitudes toward social media ads are shaped by the quality and personalization of advertising content, platform trust, social influence mechanisms, and individual motivational differences. Furthermore, positive attitudinal orientations are demonstrated to be strong antecedents of purchase intentions, particularly when advertising messages align with consumers' values and informational needs. The study contributes theoretically to the body of digital advertising scholarship and offers actionable insights for marketing practitioners seeking to optimize campaign effectiveness in the social media environment. Implications for communications policy, ethical advertising practice, and future empirical research are discussed.
