-
This deliverable builds upon the work completed in D5.1 under InnoProtein project (New sustainable proteins for food, feed and non-food bio-based applications; HORIZON-JU-CBE-2022; project number 101112072). Multiple trials have been conducted using H.illucens and T.Molitor to validate and refine the recipe, with a primary focus on determining the optimal diet for maximum production of biomass with high protein content.
Bombyx Eri was ultimately not pursued due to the incompatibility of the substrates and co-products provided by the InnoProtein project with this insect's specific needs. This specie primarily requires privet, ailante, lilac, and castor-oil plants to be raised. Furthermore, numerous biological challenges were encountered, including lengthy cycle times, irregular hatching rates, and high mortality rates under suboptimal conditions, making it unsuitable for the project.
