Within this framework, female characters play a crucial role in shaping ideological and emotional dimensions of the story. This research paper examines the portrayal of female characters primarily Tha’mma, Ila, and May Price and analyzes how they represent different perspectives on nationalism, modernity, morality and gender roles. Through a feminist and postcolonial lens, the research paper argues that Ghosh uses these characters to challenge traditional gender expectations while simultaneously reflecting the socio-political realities of colonial and postcolonial societies. The paper also explores how memory and narrative voice influence the representation of women in the novel. By analyzing textual evidence and critical scholarship, it demonstrates that female characters are central to the novel’s exploration of identity, borders and human relationships.</span></em></p> <p class="MsoNormal"> </p> |
