contents
This document is the Final Design Review (FDR) report of Team ASTRA from Poland, prepared for the Cansats in Europe competition organized by the European Space Agency (ESA). The report presents the complete design of a CanSat probe that functions as a compact, foldable quadcopter drone capable of fitting within standard CanSat dimensional constraints (66 mm diameter, 114 mm height).

The primary mission involves measuring temperature and pressure during descent from approximately 2500 meters, transmitting telemetry data via LoRa (433 MHz) to a custom-built ground station. The secondary mission, inspired by NASA's Ingenuity Mars Helicopter, focuses on autonomous terrain surveying — the probe deploys folding arms mid-flight, detaches its parachute using a thermal release system, and conducts a photogrammetric scan of a 250 m × 250 m area at 15 meters altitude. The captured images are processed using Autodesk ReCap Pro to generate 3D terrain models and contour maps.

The report covers mechanical and structural design, electrical schematics, PCB design, software architecture (Arduino-based primary mission control and ArduPilot-based flight control), recovery systems, ground support equipment, power budget and flight time calculations, test campaign results, safety measures, project planning, budget, and the team's outreach programme. All team members hold A1/A3 drone pilot certificates.

Total mass: 348.6 g. Estimated flight time: 25.6 minutes. Total project cost: 521.72 EUR.
