contents
This project presents an innovative approach to extracting Photoplethysmogram (PPG) signals using a standard smartphone camera. The methodology relies on placing the finger over the camera while utilizing a red light source to detect changes in light absorption caused by blood flow variations (pulsatile volume). By analyzing these micro-changes in the video frames, the system captures the PPG waveform, which serves as a foundation for non-invasive health monitoring.

The research highlights the potential of using this captured signal to predict critical health indicators beyond heart rate, such as Blood Glucose levels, Blood Pressure, and early signs of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). This is achieved by analyzing vascular elasticity and flow patterns; for instance, identifying the lack of vessel flexibility in diabetic patients. This work demonstrates how ubiquitous mobile technology can be transformed into a powerful diagnostic tool for personalized healthcare.

Key Features:

Methodology: Camera-based transillumination and red-light absorption analysis.

Diagnostic Potential: Detecting vascular stiffness and flow abnormalities.

Applications: Early detection of Diabetes, Hypertension, and Renal Failure.

This work was conducted at Arab International University (AIU), Syria. please visit the official repository of Arab International University (AIU):

https://www.aiu.edu.sy
