- <p>We formally derive a curvature-penalized defect energy functional from a minimal scalar field theory defined on a compact periodic fiber. In a thin-core localization regime, the field energy admits an asymptotic expansion whose reduced one-dimensional part consists of a tension term and a curvature penalty. This provides a field-theoretic origin for the wrapped-defect functional used in previous work on inverse spectral ladders. The derivation is presented at the level of a controlled asymptotic expansion; a full variational justification is left for future work.</p>
