Closest to S. nesomeson sp. nov. and S. trinalis sp. nov., united by having the head only moderately convex ventrally; ocellar triangle relatively wide, OOL/WOT less than 1.40; and malar space short but distinct, about 1/4 as long as the mandible base. Differing from S. trinalis in lacking the propodeal transverse carina and having the metafemur relatively narrow (HFL/HFW ≥2.50). Nearly identical to S. nesomeson, differing only in the wing venation, with a broader cell 2R1 and convex posterior margin of 1M, denser setation of the basal wing cells, and slightly paler mandible. Also very similar to S. intonsa sp. nov., differing in having the mandible and femora conspicuously pale (usually nearly black in S. intonsa, sometimes mandible reddish brown) and the vertex slightly carinate between the lateral ocelli.

Etymology

Named for the close similarity of this species to S. glutinata sp. nov.

Type material

Holotype

AUSTRALIA – Victoria • ♀; Cumberland Creek, via Cambarville; elev. 854 m; 13 Dec. 1973; I. Clypeal process semicircular, apex rounded; dorsally with a low carina, distinctly visible only when viewed directly down towards mandibles, or with a sharp carina; in profile evenly curved from base to apex, apical angle slightly acute. Mandible narrow, broadened at base and apex, ventral margin distinctly concave; apical half of mandible strongly convex outwardly, teeth arrayed on frontal and dorsal surfaces, outwardly coriaceous, somewhat dull; in ventral view obtusely elbowed. Apex of mandible vertical, with equally strong teeth. Malar space 1/4 as long as width of base of mandible. Dorsal setae of head about as long as flagellar width or scarcely longer. Frons moderately punctate, about 2–3 pit widths apart. Vertex and gena setae similar to and only slightly longer than setae of frons. Frons microsculpture finely microreticulate to coriaceous, surface weakly matte. Vertex in dorsal view more or less straight; occipital margin narrowly carinate posterior of ocelli, becoming broadly rounded laterally. Lateral ocelli nearly touching vertex crest. Ocellar triangle anterior angle right to weakly obtuse. Head narrowed posterior to eyes. Eye setae short, only about as long as 1–2 ommatidia. Dorsum of head in lateral view strongly convex, head deepest on line through eye. Venter of head posterior to mandible convex in lateral view, with relatively sparse setae. Head evenly convex ventrally, genal angle absent. Side of head posterior to eye with a line of tesselate microsculpture extending from posteroventral margin of eye to vertex crest, distinctly different from smoother sculpting dorsally and ventrally. Gena ventral to eye convex; sculpture coriaceous ventrally and posterolaterally, with broad band of tesselate-colliculate sculpture extending diagonally on each side from anterior margin of eye to posteroventral margin of head. Postgenal depression absent. Antenna extending to posterior margin of pronotum.

MESOSOMA. Anterior margin of dorsal pronotal area in lateral view evenly rounded. Pronotal setae longer than flagellar width. Propodeal disc laterally coarsely rugulose; median carina absent; transverse carina absent, brow of declivity broadly rounded; metapleural carinae complete. Profemur robust, about twice as long as wide and strongly convex dorsally, with both anterior and posterior surfaces convex, not strongly compressed, more or less straight in dorsal view.

METASOMA. Shining, with faint microsculpture laterally. S2–5 each with a single sparse apical row of setae. Sixth sternum glabrous medially, with a mix of long and short setae laterally.

COLOR. Body entirely dark brown to black. Antenna with scape and base of flagellum pale, becoming darker over apical half. Mandible orange. Coxae and femora brown, protibia and tarsus and all trochanters yellow, meso- and metatibiae and tarsi brownish.

WINGS. Membrane tinged with yellow. Basal cells of fore wing very densely setose, with five or more rows of setae in cell R. Cell 1M weakly convex posteriorly, corner posteroapical. Distal portion of vein Rs nearly straight, meeting anterior wing margin at right angle.

MEASUREMENTS.
