- <p><b><i>Sierola stichtops</i> sp. nov.</b></p><p>urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act: 1E5A8A33-163C-417A-AFB8-62B5BDFCCB3F</p><p>Figs 179, 185</p><p><b>Diagnosis</b></p><p>A unique species, immediately recognizable by the deep, close, even punctures of the lower frons, abruptly changing to normal, sparser punctation posterior of the middle of the eye. The head is also very densely setose ventrally, with longer setae posteriorly.</p><p><b>Etymology</b></p><p>From the Greek ‘ <i>stichtos</i> ’, ‘punctured’, + ‘ <i>ops</i> ’, ‘face’, referring to the unusual deep, dense punctures of the lower frons. It is a noun in apposition.</p><p><b>Type material</b></p><p><b>Holotype</b></p><p>AUSTRALIA – <b>Tasmania</b> • ♀; 10 km ENE of Nunamara; 41°22′ S, 147°24′ E; 12 Jan.–6 Feb. 1983; I.D. Naumann and J.C. Cardale leg.; Malaise / ethanol; ANIC 32-154882.</p><p><b>Paratype</b></p><p>AUSTRALIA – Tasmania • 1 ♀; same data as for holotype; ANIC.</p><p><b>Description</b></p><p><b>Female</b></p><p>HEAD. Clypeal process semicircular, apex rounded; dorsally with a sharp or rounded carina; in profile evenly curved from base to apex, apical angle slightly acute. Mandible narrow, slightly broadened at base and apex, ventral margin weakly concave; not twisted, at most weakly convex outwardly, outwardly polished and shining near apex, remainder coriaceous; in ventral view evenly, moderately curved. Apex of mandible vertical, with equally strong teeth. Malar space 1/3 as long as width of base of mandible. Dorsal setae of head very short on anterior half, longer than flagellar width posterior of middle of inner eye margin. Frons with dense, deep punctures between antennae and midpoint of eyes, less than 1 pit width apart, abruptly sparser posteriorly, 1–3 pit widths apart. Vertex and gena setae similar to and only slightly longer than setae of frons. Frons microsculpture finely microreticulate, surface weakly matte. Vertex in dorsal view slightly sinuate around ocellar triangle; occipital margin not carinate but forming a pronounced ridge. Lateral ocelli nearly touching vertex crest. Ocellar triangle anterior angle strongly obtuse. Head narrowed posterior to eyes. Eye setae short, only about as long as 1–2 ommatidia. Dorsum of head in lateral view nearly flat, convex around ocellar triangle, head deepest on line through eye. Venter of head posterior to mandible flat in lateral view, covered with dense pubescence, with longer setae along posterior margin. Head weakly convex ventrally, genal angle absent. Side of head posterior to eye with a line of tesselate microsculpture extending from posteroventral margin of eye to vertex crest, distinctly different from smoother sculpting dorsally and ventrally. Gena ventral to eye convex; sculpture weakly microreticulate ventrally and posterolaterally, with broad band of tesselate-colliculate sculpture extending diagonally on each side from anterior margin of eye to posteroventral margin of head, ventrally densely punctate. Postgenal depression absent. Antenna extending to pronotum.</p><p>MESOSOMA. Anterior margin of dorsal pronotal area in lateral view weakly angulate. Pronotal setae longer than flagellar width. Propodeal disc laterally coarsely striate; median carina absent; transverse carina faintly present; metapleural carinae complete. Profemur robust, about twice as long as wide and strongly convex dorsally, with both anterior and posterior surfaces convex, not strongly compressed, more or less straight in dorsal view.</p><p>METASOMA. Shining, with faint microsculpture laterally. S2–5 each with a single sparse apical row of setae. Sixth sternum glabrous medially, with a mix of long and short setae laterally.</p><p>COLOR. Body entirely dark brown to black. Antenna entirely dark brown except ventral side of basal flagellomeres yellowish. Mandible black. Legs all brown.</p><p>WINGS. Membrane tinged with yellow. Basal cells of fore wing sparsely setose, with one or two rows of setae in each cell. Cell 1M weakly convex posteriorly, corner posteroapical. Distal portion of vein Rs strongly curved, meeting anterior wing margin at oblique angle.</p><p>MEASUREMENTS. LFW 1.57 mm; LM 0.79 mm; WH/LH 0.92; DH/LH 0.52; EV/HE 0.52; EV/WF 0.52; WF/HE 1.00; WH/WF 1.79; OOL/WOT 0.88; DM/LM 0.35; FL/FW 2.00; HFL/HFW 2.36; A3 L/ W 1.25; 2R1 L/ W 2.71.</p><p><b>Distribution</b></p><p>Tasmania; known only from two specimens collected together.</p>
