| contents | <p class="MsoNormal">Diabetes camps have been practiced for over half a century and are predominantly evaluated within a positive framework in the literature. However, this study reveals a paradox through the systematic analysis of 305 publications (1980–2026) screened by two independent experts from 656 publications retrieved from the Web of Science database across five analytical layers: diabetes camps benefit their participants; yet the scope, sustainability, variability by target population, and economic dimension of this benefit are systematically unknown. While 97.1 % of the 104 studies reporting outcomes documented benefit in at least one dimension, 47.1% simultaneously contained negative or non-significant sub-outcomes. The number of studies with follow-up exceeding six months is approximately 10, and the number of studies providing direct cost-effectiveness analysis is zero. This article deconstructs this paradox through five epistemic layers and presents an operationalized evidence gap matrix.</p> |
