These species are apparently broadly distributed throughoutwest central Nevada, occurringina varietyofhabitattypes.We captured Euderma maculatum at2 localities. These represent the1st knownrecords ofthisspecies inEsmeralda County Nevada. Mine adits were surveyed forhibernating bats from December 1994 throughFebruary1995. We determined thepresence of3hibernatingspecies: C.townsendii,M.cilio- labrum,and P.hesperus.Bats were present in19of70 mines (27%) we surveyed atelevations rangingfrom1500 mto 2460 m.C.townsendiiwas themostcommon species encountered. Our studyprovides some much-needed baseline data onbatdistributionand use ofmines forhibernacula inwest centralNevada. |
