DIGITAL TOOLS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING: A FOCUS ON SPEAKING SKILL DEVELOPMENT

| contents | <p class="MsoNormal"><em><span>This article focuses on the ongoing digital changes in linguistics and language teaching, especially on how ICT is being used in English Language Teaching (ELT). Rather than just describing the technologies themselves, the author pays attention to how these changes affect the roles of both teachers and students. In many cases, traditional teacher-led instruction is gradually being replaced by more flexible, student-oriented approaches where technology becomes part of everyday learning.</span></em></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><em><span>The paper also attempts to organize and classify the main types of online educational platforms. Among them are Learning Management Systems (LMS), MOOCs, and mobile-assisted language learning (MALL) tools. Each of these platforms is considered from a practical point of view, in terms of how it supports different aspects of language learning.</span></em></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><em><span>The empirical part of the study is based on a mixed-methods approach and includes 54 university students. The goal here is to understand how different digital environments influence the development of speaking skills. The results show that MALL applications are more helpful for vocabulary building and pronunciation practice, while communication-based platforms such as Flipgrid have a stronger impact on fluency and confidence. This seems to be largely due to the fact that such platforms help to reduce anxiety during oral speech.</span></em></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><em><span>Based on these observations, the author suggests a practical model for teaching speaking skills, where different digital tools are used at different stages of instruction rather than relying on a single platform.</span></em></p> |
