contents <p><br>Recent estimates indicate that global biodiversity loss is not occurring randomly. Due to global change drivers, including temperature, biological invasions, and particularly land use, the total number of species on Earth is declining, resulting in both winners and losers among species. Typically, declining organisms possess extended lifespans, larger body sizes, diminished dispersal abilities, more specialized resource utilization, reduced reproductive rates, and additional characteristics that render them more vulnerable to human activities, including nutrient loading, harvesting, and biomass removal through burning, livestock grazing, ploughing, and clear-felling.
