contents
Abstract:

This technical note defines Brown Hyperlinks, also called Burylinks, as a recoverable hyperlink grammar for field-based web discovery.

Unlike traditional blue hyperlinks, which directly open destination pages, brown hyperlinks introduce an intermediate recoverable state: the destination becomes a buried artifact that must be revealed, dug up, or recovered before access.

The proposal reframes hyperlinking from surface navigation and “surfing” toward digging, recovery, delayed reveal, spoiler-safe access, ritualized sharing, and discoverable media. It distinguishes Brown Hyperlinks from ordinary hidden links, ARG mechanics, legal “buried hyperlink” dark patterns, and decorative recoloring by defining them as a generalized interaction primitive for the existing web.

The Brownweb is proposed as the recoverable layer of the web: not a separate network, but a depth layer where links become artifacts before they become destinations.
