| contents |
“This work investigates the observational asymmetry between the superluminal (α > 0) and subluminal (α < 0) branches of quadratic (n = 2) Planck-scale Lorentz invariance violation (LIV) in ultra-high-energy cosmic ray (UHECR) spectral analyses.
We show analytically that the GZK threshold shift for the subluminal branch lies many orders of magnitude below the energy resolution of existing and foreseeable detectors, rendering the α < 0 branch effectively inaccessible through UHECR spectral measurements. In contrast, the superluminal branch generates a detectable vacuum Cherenkov spectral edge within the Pierre Auger energy window.
The work derives a closed-form Fisher-information estimator for the Cherenkov channel, validates the scaling behaviour numerically and through Monte Carlo simulations, and introduces the concept of sensitivity asymmetry between the two LIV branches.
A revised reporting convention is proposed for n = 2 LIV constraints, arguing that currently published ‘two-sided’ bounds are operationally one-sided constraints on the superluminal branch only.
Keywords: Lorentz invariance violation, UHECR, vacuum Cherenkov radiation, Fisher information, Pierre Auger Observatory, sensitivity asymmetry, quantum gravity phenomenology.”
|
