contents In this bust Sophocles is portrayed with even facial features, dense short curls and a full, idealised beard. As this is a later depiction of the poet, who died when he was 90, its idealised form show little aging. there are slight wrinkles on the forehead and slight carving work on the crowsfeet on either side of the eyes. This is a 1st Century AD copy of an original of the 1 BC, originating from the Capitoline Museums in Rome.
