contents Chadick's work is divided into three main themes: the tortured animal, the stranger who meets, and the viewer. With these themes, the artist is more concerned with emotional expression than with abstraction. This piece clearly belongs to the second group. In the 'Encounters' - Cadwick made more than 20 - man is transformed into a primitive being who meets an equally primitive fellow-species. The image is built around the tension that arises during this encounter and there are references to African or Polynesian folk art, which is not surprising, as Chadwick was fascinated by it. A total of four bronze copies were made.
