-
We propose a differential test of the possible internal structural response of the electron to an effective electromagnetic field, using the comparison between the bound g factor of the electron in hydrogenlike and lithiumlike silicon ions.
In the considered model, the anomalous magnetic moment of the electron is described as an entangled sum of internal anomalous orbital moments.
An effective electromagnetic perturbation is introduced into the energy balance of the first two orbitals through a controlled increment of their magnetic energy, taking into account an effective electronic shielding due to the other orbitals present.
The structure of the electron shows a linear and stable response, dominated by the S1 orbital.
Applying an appropriate differential comparison, the residual structural contribution of the model results compatible with the scale of the differential residual inferred from the available silicon data.
This result does not constitute a demonstration of the internal structure of the electron, but identifies the differential comparison as a possible quantitative testing ground for an orbital structural response.
