This article investigates the primary categories and methods of data collection that are frequently employed in educational research, with an emphasis on quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Qualitative data collection emphasizes descriptive and non-numerical information obtained from interviews, observations, focus groups, and open-ended questions, while quantitative data collection involves numerical information gathered through tests, surveys, experiments, and closed-ended questionnaires. The article also addresses critical factors in data collection, such as reliability, validity, and ethics, which have a direct impact on the quality of research. Insufficient methodological knowledge and inadequate research planning are among the most prevalent obstacles encountered by neophyte researchers. There are numerous practical solutions that are recommended, such as undertaking meticulous preparation prior to commencing a study, comprehending methodological principles, and enhancing research literacy. The results may be beneficial to educators, researchers, graduate students, and other individuals who are conducting educational investigations.</p> |
