contents
Disaster resilience in educational institutions requires not only robust systems and policies but also capable leadership that can translate preparedness into coordinated action. This study assessed the competencies of Student Government (SELG) leaders and advisers in advancing Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), with emphasis on strategic planning and organizational capacity. Employing a descriptive–evaluative quantitative design, the research involved 143 SELG officers and 26 school heads/advisers. Data were analyzed using frequency counts, weighted means, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Pearson correlation to determine competence levels, group differences, and relationships among variables. Results revealed that SELG officers demonstrated a moderately competent level of strategic planning and organizational capacity (overall mean = 3.317), indicating active engagement in DRR initiatives but limited proficiency in systematic planning, coordination, and program execution. In contrast, school heads and advisers obtained a highly competent rating (overall mean = 4.034), reflecting strong leadership capacity, effective organizational management, and structured guidance in DRR implementation. The study concludes that while school leaders and advisers exhibit high competence, enhancing SELG officers’ skills through sustained training, experiential learning, and strengthened mentorship is essential to optimize student governments as partners in fostering disaster-resilient school communities.
