London, 13:272.</p><p>TYPE LOCALITY: Not given; " Sumatra " implied.</p><p>DISTRIBUTION: Malayan Peninsula, Borneo and Sumatra, Labuan island.</p><p>SYNONYMS: <i>albus, birmanica, borneotica, candida, minor, rafflesii.</i></p><p>COMMENTS: Two subspecies, <i>gymnura</i> (Sumatra and Malay Peninsula) and <i>albus</i> (Borneo) are recognized; see Corbet (1988:128). The common spelling of the specific epithet as <i>gymnurus</i> is incorrect; see Frost et al. (1991:24).</p>
