Chemical Composition in Fast Rotators Main Sequence Stars
Using public data of the Ultraviolet and Visual Echelle Spectrograph Paranal Observatory Project (UVES POP) the projected rotational velocities, v sin i, for 16 stars in the field of the galactic cluster IC 2391 (o Vel Cluster) were obtained using the method of the Fourier transform (FT). We found that only 12 of these objects are cluster members and separating them in two sets (main sequence stars and evolved stars) a correlation of the rotation velocity with the effective temperature was found, indicating a nearly equal orientation of the rotation axis for the member stars. The ratios N/C and O/C obtained for the main sequence stars increase with v sin i and show evidence of mixing induced by rotation.
Published 2006Fuente: Universidad Nacional Autónoma de MéxicoTipo de material: Artículo de InvestigaciónDescripción: Resumen: CdTe:Al films were grown by the close space vapor transport technique combined with free evaporation (CSVT-FE). The Aluminum (Al) evaporation was made by two kinds of sources: one made of graphite and the other of tantalum. The films were deposited on glass substrates. The Al source temperatura was varied maintaining the CdTe source temperature fixed as well as the substrate temperature. The films were characterized by x-ray energy dispersive analysis (EDAX), x ray diffraction and optical transmission. The results showed for the films grown with the graphite source for Al evaporation, the Al did not incorporate in the CdTe matrix, at least to the level of EDAX sensitivity; they maintained the same crystal structure and band gap. For the samples grown with the tantalum source, we were able to incorporate the Al. The x ray diffraction patterns show that the films have a crystal structure that depends on Al concentration. They were cubic up to 2.16 at.% Al concentration; for 19.65 at.% we found a mixed phase; for Al concentration higher than 21 at.% the films were amorphous. For samples with cubic structure it was found that the lattice parameter decreasesand the band gap increases with Al concentration.Acceso al recurso -

The green potential of the San Pedro Mártir observatory
Published 2016Fuente: Universidad Nacional Autónoma de MéxicoTipo de material: Artículo de InvestigaciónDescripción: Resumen: Weather observations carried out between October 2004 and July 2008 at the Mexican Observatorio Astronómico Nacional (OAN) are analyzed. Humidity in April, May and June was less than 55% nearly 90% of the time. Wind speed waslarger at nightime and tended to decrease between March and November. Typical temperature variations during the night, for the entire day and for a whole year were about 2, 6 and 16ºC, respectively. The scale height or roughness length for the function relating wind speed and height above ground is between 0.55 and 0.67 meters. Normal activities associated to OAN produced somewhat more than 750 tons of COeq₂ a year, roughly 3 times more than a typical mid-scale industry in the district of Ensenada, where OAN is located. Wind energy could have been extracted to produce electricity ~ 60% of the time, being more bountiful during the night and in the winter and early spring months. Solar and wind energy seem plentiful enough to supply the entire energy needs of the observatory, some 110 kWh including transportation. Weather observations carried out between October 2004 and July 2008 at the Mexican Observatorio Astronoacute;mico Nacional (OAN) are analyzed.
